On July 1, HAPTA member Cindy Tamayo, PT, begins serving as a member of the Hawaii Board of Physical Therapy, after being appointed to a four-year term by the Hawaii Legislature. She is the Director of Rehabilitation for Maui Health System.

Cindy has been a PT for more than 35 years and has most recently served as the chair of HAPTA’s Ethics Committee for multiple terms. Cindy’s volunteer work for HAPTA also included helping to secure conference locations for the Education Committee and providing testimony for legislative bills, including a bill that expanded services for kids with autism. She previously served on the Board of PT for two terms, including two years as the chair of the board.

Cindy’s years of involvement as a HAPTA volunteer and on the Board of PT grow from her desire to “give back to a profession that’s treated me well for a really long time.”

HAPTA member Herb Yee, who served with Cindy on the HAPTA Ethics Committee, as well as on the Hawaii Board of PT, said in a letter of support, “It was always a pleasure and an education to work with her on issues.”
